May 2 Volleyball & Food Drive
Thanks to everyone that came out to Fairmont Park yesterday for our great event! We served hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and cookies to over 50 people. In addition to enjoying a meal together, folks played cornhole and Can Jam in between assembling meal and snack kits for needy kids at Granite Schools.
As a result of this event, we were able to provide 394 snack kits, and 76 meal kits for our kids! (Each meal kit provides four weekend meals and a snack for one student).
Because of the high cost of living in Utah, many folks are experiencing food insecurity at unprecedented levels. In fact, 42% of Granite’s 58,000 students qualify for free or reduced lunch programs. No child in our great City should go hungry! As a State, we must make this issue a top priority – and solve this problem once and for all.
Our event was held next to one of the main walkways, and it gave me a chance to talk to many people out enjoying the beautiful afternoon. It was great meeting these potential voters and hearing about issues that are affecting their daily lives. Many are also concerned about the future of our Great Salt Lake and feel our way of life here is threatened. They agree with me that saving our lake must be a priority on next year’s legislative agenda.
During our event, in addition to hearing from me about our campaign priorities, we heard from Chris Scott, our Salt Lake County Forward Party Chair, and from Travis Alico, House District 26 Candidate. Also in attendance was our Forward Party Communications Director, Phil Boileau, and House District 23 Candidate, Cabot Nelson. Thank you to all the Forward Party Members that came out to support this event!
We are so fortunate to live in this great state, and while we have some challenges and a lot of work ahead to solve them, I believe nothing is impossible when we roll up our sleeves and work together. I am willing to do the hard work and unite those from opposing parties to bring common sense solutions to help Utahans.
Together we can move Utah Forward!
Colin
PS This food drive was so successful that we plan to hold another one in the fall. Stay tuned for more details!
